Why 1978?

 Well…...

Winifred Atwell appeared on a TV show in Sydney then, called This Is Your Life.

Up until then, and despite being big fans, my parents only had one of her records called Party Time With Winnie and Joe (Henderson ) Vol 2, which I don’t personally rank as one of her better records.

 However, from the moment I saw Winifred Atwell on that show I made up my mind that I just had to meet her after she had announced her plans to leave Australia in 1981 to return to Trinidad.

 Not only did I get a chance to meet her in person at her beachfront apartment at Ocean St, Narrabeen, but she also asked me to play some piano for her on her famous Steinway Grand, which is something I will treasure for life.

 Fortunately, Winifred eventually decided against leaving Australia; and even went on to gain Australian Citizenship in 1981.

 The aim of this Home Page therefore is a Tribute To Winifred Atwell and I invite you to read on and perhaps share any experiences you may have had meeting Winnie and/or attending any of her concerts.
